Mozilla vs. IE vs Todd
This week I've been working (with the help of Jim Wagner from Arcadia Valley R-2 in Ironton, MO) on Mozilla/FireFox/Seamonkey compatibility issues. Right now, about 10% of our logons are from Firefox/Seamonkey, but that has been steadily growing. We are Microsoft shop more or less, but we like Mozilla and want our software to play well with it. Microsoft doesn't really seem to want that. The two browsers work quite a bit differently and making the system work well with both has been tough. We are making headway though. I think it is going well and I am personally learning a lot. Plus it is helping me fix some of the problems I reference in my last post under Little Tweaks. We're making the system look and work better in all browsers which is great. Just frustrates sometimes. For instance today, the changes/improvements we made earlier in the week made a feature crash. Robert Tietjen from Muscogee County Schools in GA alerted us to the feature crash (our quick open feature in the building and work order systems). I dug into the code and re-wrote it in Java Script. Java is not my specialty, so that was about 2 hours of work that a java programmer could have finished in 15 minutes. Got it though, and it all works now.
Sort of a rambling post, but just wanted to let you all know how it was going. The resolutions from last post are going well as you can see from recent updates. On that note, we would like to welcome South Iron R-1 (Anapolis, MO) as a new customer! Thank you all for your business!
PS When checking the stats I noticed that our Safari users are dropping. Mac users are staying steady so I would assume many of our mac users have switched to Firefox.
